We value positive relationships with parents and carers to help develop better social and emotional skills in children. We know that when children are engaged with their learning, they attend school more regularly, leading to better long term outcomes.

For parenting and counselling services, visit the Family Support page, and for direction and clarity on regulations, processes and procedures at our school, read the Sydney Catholic School policies.

St Patrick’s Catholic Primary School Mortlake encourages and promotes a supportive partnership between home and school. We value the important role parents/carers play in the education of their child. A friendly and welcoming community really supports children’s overall development and learning and communication is the key to building positive relationships.

Our school strives to keep parents well informed about school and community news and your child’s progress. We use:

  • The school app (COMPASS). This is used to keep parents up to date with events at the school. The majority of school information is relayed through COMPASS. Events, forms to fill and quick announcements come to your phone with an email alert.
  • The school newsletter is produced every second Wednesday (usually odd weeks) throughout the year. (This is also stored on COMPASS).
  • Our Student & Parent Portal places an updated grid every week on what is happening in learning in the classroom.
  • A termly overview for each grade is placed on the student portal as well as COMPASS, which outlines the learning for the whole term across all subject areas.

Parents are invited to attend either a whole class meeting or face to face interviews in the first few weeks of Term 1 every year. You are invited for an early interview in Term 2 to discuss your child’s progress and you will receive a report at the end of Term 2, outlining progress in all subject areas. Other times, which are more informal are conducted through the year to support the continued progress of your child.

St Patrick’s really tries to promote a strong partnership between home and school and encourages parent involvement in a variety of ways. Open communication is highly valued and encouraged and parents can always arrange meeting times to meet with teachers or members of the executive team at any time through the school year.
