Why choose our school?

St Patrick’s Catholic Primary School Mortlake is a warm and welcoming community, where your child will be loved and cared for.

With a strong focus on early learners, our teachers have been handpicked for our school. Grounded in contemporary research, they lead by example in being continual learners. We are passionate about children having a love of learning and growing children into purposeful learners who are resilient, engaged and informed.

Commencing as an infant school and with our supportive family school community, the ease of transition to primary school at St Patrick’s is unlike any other.

Principal’s Message

Welcome to St Patrick’s Catholic Primary School. The school welcomed its first students into an exciting and imaginative learning culture in January 2017.

St Patrick’s School rekindled the tradition of Catholic education in the Mortlake area that first began in 1895 supported by the parish and the Sisters of Charity. We are creating a dynamic, contemporary school that will empower our learners into an exciting and rewarding future.

Learning at St Patrick’s will be in partnership with parents, as the first educators. I welcome their engagement in this exciting chapter of their child’s life journey and the birth of our new school community.

Our school culture will reflect Christian values of inclusion, respect, love, welcome and service. I welcome Monsignor John Usher’s passion, commitment and support of the vision to establish a high-quality Catholic school in the heart of the Mortlake community.

My dream for St Patrick’s is that it will be a dynamic school, a place of learning and inquiry, a place of faith and celebration in a safe and happy environment.

I encourage your family to contact us to book a school tour and discuss the opportunities that will be available for your child at St Patrick’s  Catholic Primary School.

St Patricks Catholic Primary School Mortlake HistoryHistory
The site of the current parish of St Patrick’s Church Mortlake was first purchased by the Archdiocese of Sydney in July 1889 at the encouragement of Dean Callaghan McCarthy; who was Parish Priest of St Mary’s Concord.

Officially opening in 1895, the church was built to service the needs of all Catholic families in Mortlake, Breakfast Point and Cabarita. Since its opening, St Patrick’s Catholic Parish has grown into a vibrant parish with weekly Mass for the increasing Catholic population in the area.

The original school was founded in 1896 to educate the Irish worker’s children. It later closed and re-opened in 1917 and closed permanently in 1963. The school was supported by the Sisters of Charity who came from St Mary’s Concord each day to educate the children. Some historical school registers still exist that show inspector reports on the school over the years.

The charity values of love, justice, compassion and hope will underpin the new school Vision and Mission as well as acknowledging the traditional owners of the precious land, the Wangal people of the Eora Nation.

The school moved into the new building in 2018, with architecturally designed spaces to capture natural light, space and ventilation. It was wonderful for the children to watch their school rise from the earth into the new modern, spacious structure, that they now enjoy.
